PATIO & PAVER CLEANING · SAN CLEMENTE, CA

Patio & Paver Cleaning in San Clemente, CA

Patios are where San Clemente homeowners actually live outdoors, and they take a different kind of wear than a driveway: sunscreen and pool water, grease from the grill, leaf litter that sits all winter, and a green film in the corners the afternoon sun never reaches.

We clean paver, travertine, flagstone, and concrete patios, along with pool decks and the steps and low walls around them, using settings matched to each material.

THE PATIO PROBLEMS WE SEE

What builds up where you relax

Most patio buildup is organic. Fallen leaves and blossoms from bougainvillea and jacaranda stain stone as they break down, and moss creeps outward from the joints along the shady side of the house. Around outdoor kitchens and fire pits, grease spatter and soot add a darker layer that plain water only smears.

Pavers can also show a white, powdery haze that keeps coming back. That is efflorescence: mineral salts drawn up from inside the paver as moisture evaporates. It is a different problem from sprinkler spotting on top of the surface, it needs a different cleaner, and knowing which one you have avoids wasted effort.

Why do my pavers look washed out after cleaning?

Often it is efflorescence left behind, or residue from a cleaner that was never fully rinsed. A proper efflorescence treatment, followed by a thorough rinse and full drying, usually brings the original color back. If the pavers were sealed years ago and that sealer has worn unevenly, some color variation can remain until they are resealed.

SURFACES WE CLEAN

Pavers, natural stone, and pool decks

Each outdoor surface on a property tolerates a different amount of force, so a patio visit usually involves several settings rather than one.

✓  Concrete and clay pavers, cleaned joint line by joint line

✓  Travertine, a soft and acid-sensitive stone, using stone-safe products

✓  Flagstone and slate, with low pressure on uneven edges

✓  Pool decks and coping, including textured and coated finishes

✓  Outdoor kitchen areas, grill pads, and fire pit surrounds

✓  Patio steps, low garden walls, and planter edges

Is travertine safe to pressure wash?

Yes, with care. Travertine is softer and more porous than concrete, and acidic cleaners can dull or pit its surface. We use low pressure, a wide spray pattern, and cleaning products made for natural stone, then rinse thoroughly so nothing is left sitting in the stone’s pores.

PROTECTING THE JOINTS

Cleaning pavers without loosening them

The sand between pavers is what keeps them from shifting, rocking, and letting weeds through. Many San Clemente patios use polymeric sand, which hardens into a firm joint, while older installations use loose sand that rinses out easily. We check which one you have before choosing a setting, and we angle the spray across the joints rather than straight into them.

If a section of joint sand has already eroded, from years of rain or an earlier aggressive cleaning, we point it out during the walkthrough so you can plan to have those joints refilled. Clean, dry pavers are also the right starting point if you decide to seal them later.

Will cleaning get rid of the weeds between my pavers?

Cleaning flushes out the weeds, moss, and seeds sitting in the joints, but roots can survive deep in the sand. Refilling the joints with polymeric sand after the patio dries is what keeps them from growing back.

POOL DECKS

Pool decks need a careful, thorough clean

A pool deck stays wet more often than any other surface on the property, so algae builds up quickly in the shaded corners and along the coping. We keep cleaning water and debris out of the pool, direct the rinse toward deck drains, and take care around waterline tile, pool lights, and textured or coated deck finishes that the wrong tip could scuff.

Do I need to prepare my pool before you arrive?

No special prep is needed. If you have a pool cover, leaving it on helps keep debris out of the water. We may ask to switch the pump off briefly while we work right beside the skimmer.

OUR PROCESS

How a patio clean works

A patio visit starts with clearing the space, because furniture legs and planters hide some of the heaviest staining.

✓  Furniture, planters, and rugs moved off the surface and set aside

✓  Joint type, stone type, and any loose pavers checked before we start

✓  Stain pre-treatment for grease, leaf tannin, and efflorescence

✓  Low-pressure surface clean, then detail work on steps and edges

✓  Full rinse, furniture returned, and a final look together

Can you clean the patio furniture during the same visit?

Hard furniture such as aluminum, resin, and teak can usually be cleaned while we are there. Cushions and fabric are better washed by hand. Our guide to pressure washing outdoor furniture and fences explains what each material can handle.

WHERE WE WORK

Patio and pool deck cleaning across San Clemente

We clean patios and pool decks throughout San Clemente, including ocean-view terraces in Marblehead and Shorecliffs, courtyard patios Downtown, and backyard pool decks in Talega and Forster Ranch. Pair your patio with driveway cleaning or a house wash and the whole exterior is done in one visit.

AFTER THE CLEAN

Keeping your patio clean longer

A few small habits stretch the time between cleanings. Sweep leaves and blossoms off before they sit through a rainy week, since wet plant matter is what leaves tannin stains. Wipe grill drips the same day, while the grease is still on the surface rather than in it. Trim back shrubs that shade the corners of the patio, and check that sprinklers are not soaking the pavers every morning.

If efflorescence returns after cleaning, moisture is still moving up through the base. On newer pavers it typically fades over the first year or two as the salts work their way out, so repeated harsh treatments are rarely needed.

QUESTIONS WE HEAR

Patio & Paver Cleaning FAQ

How much does patio cleaning cost?

It depends on the patio’s size, the surface material, and how many stains need pre-treatment. We give a free, firm quote on site before starting.

When should I book a clean before hosting a party?

Plan it two or three days ahead. Pavers and stone look their best once fully dry, and the extra time lets damp joints settle before tables and chairs go back out.

Can you remove grease stains around my grill?

Usually. Grease needs a degreaser and some dwell time before the wash. Older, darker stains may lighten rather than disappear completely.

Will cleaning harm the plants around my patio?

We pre-wet nearby beds, keep the spray away from delicate plantings, and rinse foliage again when we finish.

Do you clean covered patios and patio ceilings?

Yes. Patio covers, beams, and the walls around a covered patio can be washed at low pressure, which pairs well with a full house wash.

Can you clean the patio while I’m at work?

Not necessarily, as long as we can reach the patio and an outdoor water spigot. We confirm access details when you book.
